Anonymous asked: i know in china, they commonly us YinYueTai rather than youtube. i know that chris lee is big in china but exo is just as big, if you think about it. if chris lee won because of that bot, just imagine how big exo's fandom is? and i do think twitter mentions count because, if you see other big fandoms, they'd use that to at least let others known how big they are but chris lee's didn't. people found it weird because neither the big three (1D, JB, EXO) won. do you remember how dazed people were.
People found that weird because they have no fucking clue whats actually going on in China music wise…
People found it “weird”, because they consider the only fandoms they know “the big three” which is honestly ridiculous.
It is the exact same thing that fans of certain US stars did to SNSD after they won the YT Awards. And it is twice as silly because this fandom should now better.
Exo’s fandom is big, but not nearly as “huge in China” as stans are trying to believe. The Chinese music market is a lot bigger than the Korean one. And while Exo is big “for a Korean group”, they are not on scale with big Chinese names. They never have been. Especially not compared to established artists that have been huge for several years by now… Li Yuchun (Chris Lee) “has been the best-selling and the most popular artist in mainland China since she entered the Chinese music industry in 2005” for several years. She was the face of Coca Cola, L’Oreal Paris and Swatch in China. She has the biggest recognized fanbase in China and after 8 years in the business she is still on all the magazines, shows, etc. Basically everyone and their mothers know her…
And no, Twitter is NOT an indicator of how big something is in China since you can not use it there. At all. In China both youtube and twitter are blocked.
Lastly: This fandom has been notorious for making facts up as they want to suit their beliefs and this is just the latest fuckery in a long line…
A good fight back comment! Thank you!
In China we use Weibo instead of Twitter. And Chris Lee(Li Yuchun)’s tags are dominating in Trends. So Weibo has to block some of her tags just to make the other news able to show in the ranks.
So don’t underestimate her popularity.
